Meet "Big Stinky", the first fully textured 3D dinosaur I've tried my hand at in almost 2 and a half years(?!)
This was an attempt to create a pesonal "platonic ideal" Tyrannosaurus rex, drawing from my fave tropes & aiming for a retro feel, while still having accurate anatomy.
Several sources inspired the design. The earthy tones are Jurassic Park coded, but the paler face takes cues from Dinosaur Revolution, and body patterns were lifted from photos of Cyclura & Ctenosaura (aesthetically my fave lizards). The thorny ridges homage Hallett & Czerkas.
As shown in previous posts, the sculpt was built atop my muscle & skeleton models, which are primarily based on the New York T. rex (AMNH 5027), my favourite T. rex skeleton. I've always found it to be a very regal specimen (and it being the basis of the JP logo is a cool bonus).
The vast majority of the work (sculpting, retopo, rigging, baking) was carried out in Blender, with Photoshop used for some stages of the texture painting and editing.
I took him home. He'll behave, I'm sure.
