Allosaurus 3D skeleton

Hey, I sculpted another 3D skeleton. Fully rigged and poseable, too!

This time it's Allosaurus jimmadseni (the cooler Allosaurus species). A generalised representation as usual with my models, but scaled to and taking heavy cues from Big Al 2 (SMA 0005). When you're used to Tyrannosaurids, Allosaurus feels so... dainty.

Because I'm pretty sure that it will come up in the comments, yes, Allosaurus really is "that small". While there are fragmentary specimens that do imply larger individuals than this model, there are no substantially complete museum-requistioned skeletons that can be reliably estimated as being much longer than about 8 metres. I'm not sure exactly where this started, but a lot of popular media figures and cited "average" Allosaurus sizes tend to be massive overestimations. It's not that Allosaurus is small, it's just not a tyrannosaurid-esque behemoth.

If you're wondering what makes Allosaurus jimmadseni different to Allosaurus fragilis, it's mostly the skull. The mouth line is shaped differently - the line from the tip of the snout the jugal (cheekbone) is very straight in Allosaurus jimmadseni, whereas is in A. fragiis, the jugal curves strongly downwards from the upper tooth row. Allosaurus jimmadseni fossils are also restricted to older rocks in the Morrison Formation than Allosaurus fragilis.

You might have noticed a bit of a focus on skeleton models recently - that's because a bunch of my skeleton work will feature in the upcoming indie horror platformer "Terrible Lizards", which is set at a dinosaur-themed Route 66 roadside attraction: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2920220/Terrible_Lizards/.

This pose is a slightly niche reference - perhaps keen eyed dinosaur fans will spot it.
